Write what matters in your own words
You do not need a transcript of every sentence. Capture the argument or process, an example and anything you want to ask about later. Leave space to add a correction.
Keep sources separate
If recording is permitted, keep the recording or transcript alongside your own notes. Check names, numbers and technical terms against the course material. A transcript can be wrong, and rereading it is not the same as understanding it.
Turn the note into a question
Close your notes and try to explain the idea. Compare your answer with the source, correct the gap and return to it later. Start with one question if the lecture feels overwhelming.
